Concerning Violence is a documentary about the most daring moments in the struggle for the liberation of former colonies. It examines the mechanisms of decolonization on the basis of the controversial essay, Concerning Violence by Martinican psychiatrist and anti-colonial thinker Frantz Fanon’s from his 1961 book The Wretched of the Earth.
Narrated by American hip-hop artist Lauren Hilll. This historic book written more than 50 years ago continues to be an important tool for understanding and illuminating the neocolonialism taking place today, as well as the violence and reactions against it.
In the post film discussion moderated by Sekai Makoni with panelists Ernestine Comvalius, Quincy Gario and Simone Zeefuik we’ll unpack the impact of the documentary and different perspectives of the speakers and audience.
